Why do distance courses cost more than on-campus courses?

We go to significant effort to provide a learning experience that is as much as possible like the on-campus experience. That requires a significant investment in hardware and in the distance learning team that supports both the faculty and students. Please see our link to the Distance Learning Team.

What should I include in my essay on the application?

We use the essay to get to know you, so you’ll want to tell us a little about yourself, why you are interested in our program, and what you hope to get out of it. For more information, please see our Admission link at the top.

Who can write the letters of recommendation for my application?

Your letters of recommendation should assure us that you are ready for graduate study. If you have graduated recently from a previous degree program, you should request letters from former faculty. If you have been out of school for several years, you can request letters from your job supervisor, project collaborators, or others who are aware of your ability to undertake a complex task and see it to completion.

Where can I find information on the tests required for admission?

Which GRE test do I take?
The required GRE test is the GENERAL test, not the specialized test.

Is there recommended review material before I start the program?
The following book is recommended as a general refresher:

What material is required for the courses?

Old course syllabi are linked to the individual courses on the course schedule page. To see them click the courses tab at the top of the page and click the course title to open the syllabus. Keep in mind that they are old and any information contained in them is subject to change without notice!

Can I get college credits for courses taken in a certificate program?
NO...courses taken while pursuing a certificate are not allowed for college credit. If you have any thoughts of pursuing credits you MUST apply for admission and be admitted into the university as degree seeking or non-degree seeking. Contact us for more information.

What are the student rules for refund of fees when withdrawing from the University?
For the Fall, Spring or 10-Week Semester, fees are available as follows: prior to the first day, 100 percent; during the first five class days, 80 percent; during the second five class days, 70 percent; during the third five class days, 50 percent; during the fourth five class days, 25 percent, after the fourth five class days, none. For the 5-week Summer Term, fees are available as follows: prior to the first class day, 100 percent; during the first, second or third class day, 80 percent; during the fourth, fifth or sixth dlass day, 50 percent; seventhday of class and thereafter, none (http://student-rules.tamu.edu/rule19.htm).
