Steps to Fulfill Master's Degree Requirements

Completing your degree is as easy as one, two, three. Just follow the steps on the left. (Click here for .pdf version)

Meet with departmental graduate advisor to plan course of study for first semester.

When: Before first semester registration.
Approved by: Graduate Advisor

Establish advisory committee.
Submit a
degree plan to OGS.

When: BEFORE THE END OF THE SECOND SEMESTER
Approved by: Advisory committee, department head and OGS.

If thesis is required (Master of Science only), submit thesis proposal. Your Thesis must be turned into the Thesis Office at http://thesis.tamu.edu

When: Prior to final exam and at least 14 weeks before graduation.


Approved by: Advisory committee department head and OGS

Apply for a degree;
pay graduation fee.

When: During the first week of final semester; see OGS calendar.

Check to be sure degree program and advisory committee are up to date, and all ELP requirements (if applicable) and course work is complete.

When: Well before submitting request to schedule final examination.
Approved by: Advisory committee, graduate adviser, and department head.

Complete residence requirement.

When:If applicable, before or during final semester.
Approved by: OGS

7

Submit request for permission to schedule final examination to OGS.

When:Must be received by OGS at least 10 working days before exam date. See OGS calendar for deadlines.
Approved by: Advisory committee, department head, and OGS.

8

If required, submit either one pdf file OR two approved final copies of thesis (Master of Science only), and submit a Research Focus Benefits Form.

When: see OGS calendar for deadlines.
Approved by: Advisory committee, department head, and OGS.

9

Graduation; arrange for cap and gown.
