NExT was created in 2001 as a joint venture company of leading technical academia and industry: Heriot-Watt University,Texas A&M, The University of Oklahoma and Schlumberger. The combination of best-in-class learning with the broad geographical footprint and customer understanding that Schlumberger bring is a unique advantage for NExT. Over the years NExT has expanded its network of academic and industry provider alliances to deliver competency assessment, design learning solutions and deploy customized training that address the critical skills development of our customer’s petrotechnical staff.

- Competency-based Technical Skills Assessment which is supported by a multilingual, web-based software system.
- Certified Training Programs— combining instructor-led courses, mentored problem-solving exercises, learning projects and exam
- Integrated Skills Development Programs — including a pre-program skills assessment that leads to a customized training program. Programs range from 3 weeks to 11 months. All include class exercises and a class project.
- Blended learning — Petroleum Exploration and Production, combining instructor-led training with computer-based training.
- Course Modules — over 200 courses in 9 technology areas: Drilling, Geology, Geophysics, Petrophysics, Production, Surface Facilities, Reservoir Engineering, Multidisciplinary and Management & Economics.
- ELearning — a portfolio of distance learning available on-line or by CD
