Current Drilling Research

Dr. Jerome J. Schubert wrote the proposal to and was granted approval by the United States Minerals Management Service to conduct MMS certified well control courses for industry personnel involved in drilling, workover/completion, and well servicing. Dr. Schubert handles all teaching, administrative, and marketing of this well control training program. In addition to teaching well control courses at Texas A&M, he taught similar courses for four years at the University of Houston/Victoria-Petroleum Training Institute. He also taught courses in drilling practices, workover and completion, and log interpretation at UH/V.

Dr. Schubert, who teaches undergraduate courses in petroleum development, drilling engineering, well control, and drilling and production systems, as well as graduate courses in well control. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas with 10 years industrial experience as a drilling engineer for Pennzoil Company and Enron Oil & Gas. In addition, he is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Texas.

Dr. Schubert wrote the Well Control Manual used in the department's well control courses and has published on early kick detection through liquid level monitoring in the wellbore.
